What is the Plastic-Free Linlithgow project? The Plastic Free Linlithgow project aims to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic in our town. As part of this, we will be:
1. Conducting research on the consumption of single-use plastic in Linlithgow, and looking at potential alternatives. To read the full report findings, please click here. 2. Running the ‘Linlithgow’s Last Straw’ campaign to reduce the use of plastic straws. To view the winning posters, please scroll down to the bottom of this page. If you would like hard copies to display, please contact us. 3. Exploring the viability of Linlithgow becoming a ‘Plastic Free Community’, as defined by ‘Plastic Free Coastlines’. Going completely plastic free may be a step too far, but this organisation is encouraging local communities to set and work towards objectives for reducing use of single-use plastic. |

Vennel Flower Bed ProjectOur latest project is a collaboration with our Gardening Group and Burgh Beautiful to design and plant the Vennel Flower Bed in Linlithgow using the theme “Let’s Reduce Our Plastic Use”. The bed will represent an ocean floor and will include sculptures on an ocean theme, made from plastic waste.
Local primary schools have already signed up to help create the sculptures. Some of our members were out recently at Blackness beach, picking up plastic waste to be used for our project. |

Local Business Survey |
There is a growing movement from local businesses and schools to remove necessary plastic straws.
Our Last Straw campaign invited the school children of Linlithgow to design a poster to be displayed around town. We were delighted to receive over 300 entries to the competition and are grateful to our local MSP, Fiona Hyslop, for judging the competition and to Party At The Palace for providing the top prize! Any businesses/organisations supporting the campaign are invited to display the posters in their premises. If you would like us to drop posters in to you, please e-mail us. |
A number of local businesses are leading the way in reducing plastic use in the town. If you own a business in Linlithgow and would be interested in being part of a case study, please contact us.
